The patrol car PC or Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) has become an indispensible law enforcement tool, providing instant, direct access to local, state and federal databases and reports, including the federal Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).

But that access comes with new security requirements: according to federal security policy, all remote access to CJIS, such as from a squad car’s MDT, must include two-factor authentication to prevent unauthorized use.

ERT System’s LockDown is the fastest, easiest way to meet this federal security mandate. A federally-approved two-factor security solution, LockDown avoids the extra steps and hardware problems associated with thumbprint readers or code generators in favor of radio tags which authenticate immediately and automatically.

How It Works

Each officer is issued an ID badge (and their access rights set via the LockDown server), and each patrol car is outfitted with a PC Lock.

Whenever the officer enters the vehicle, the Lock recognizes and validates the ID card, automatically enabling the PC, so the officer can sign in via their standard password. When the officer leaves the vehicle, the Lock immediately and automatically secures the PC, preventing further access until the officer returns.
